  • DTR Rubberband questions

    1. How often should i replace them? (If i do, i believe i do).
    2. Where can i buy more? (The device comes with 10 if I'm not mistaken).
    3. Is using one or two loops / rubberbands preferable? (I think you can use one or two at a time, that or loop it one or two times).

    Hello,

I use a DTR and I think I can answer your questions based on my experience.

    1. I'm not exactly sure when to replace them. I use 2 at a time and probably replace them after a month or so, or when I don't feel enough tension anymore. But you shouldn't have to replace them too often.

    2. You can buy more from the maker of the DTR. Last I checked he sells a pack of them for $1. I've bought multiple to stock up.

    3. When I first started I had tight skin and could only use the screw with the 4 inch rod. I couldn't make the jump to the 6 inch rod so I bought the 5 inch rod and started with one band. I worked my way up to using 2 bands. I'm now trying to work my way to the 6 inch rod and I now have enough skin to always use 2 bands. I currently switch between the 5 and 6 inch rod depending on my activity. If 2 bands causes the device to hurt or slip off then use only 1 band.

I've been restoring for almost 8 months and I'm almost to a CI 3. Started at a little more than a CI 1. It has taken awhile but I think once I get to a 4 it'll get easier.

    I hope that helps.

I don't have a DTR but I think regular replacement of the rubber bands is a good idea. I would do it more like once a week than once a month personally, especially if you're wearing it hours every day.

You can get a pound or more of reasonable quality rubber bands from Amazon or staples for like $10. They are sold by number. DTR ships with #32 rubber bands.

Hi! It seems that we are in a very similar stage of our restoration. I have been at it for about a year now, and have progressed from CI-1 to CI-2.5. But I started with manual + TLC. I have had the DTR for only about 6 months. I can't quite use the 6 inch rod with elastics yet. Instead I am using the 4 inch with a set screw + a knee strap. The progress has been very slow, but like you, I am hoping that things will speed up once I get to CI-4.

I won't comment on the elastics, since I only use them rarely.
