  • Best ways to clean devices & skin from oils ?

In summer especially, the oils on skin sometimes cause some slipping.

What methods do you guys use to (1) clean skin prior to tuggingand, and (2) clean device after tugging ?

    (1) I dab excess urine off carefully. Other than that - I don't do anything special. I do not have very oily skin though.

    (2) I wash anything I've worn that day in hot water and dish soap, scrubbing it off by hand, and then letting things air dry overnight.

For my devices (TLC and TLC-X) I've ended up using just hand soap and hot water for washing the silicone parts. I then pat it dry with a piece of toilet paper. Hot water is the key for me.

The soap must not contain moisturizing additives, just plain soap. I think dish soap is a good candidate, although I haven't tried/needed it.

      Regards

I use Dawn dish soap. It does the best for me, though I am sure it isn't necessary. I figured if it cleans crude oil off of wildlife it would do a good job with natural skin oil. Another reason I find it increasingly difficult to find non-moisturizing additive soap. For crying out loud a lot of dish soaps have started to add it now.

One thing I haven't quite figured out yet is how to deal with the oils and stuff in the skin tube after a period of time. Of course I bathe and clean everything out twice a day, but after a few hours with my TLC (packer version), things get a little slippery down there. An uncut friend of mine uses witch hazel wipes. He of course doesn't need to restore but he uses it to clean up after a trip to the restroom. What do you guys think? Safe?

I use Green Soap to clean my DTR. Green Soap is specially made soap for Tattoo Shops. You can buy a gallon of it for around $12.50 and that makes 3 gallons of spray soap. So it lasts for freaking ever!

I didn't buy the Green Soap specially for restoration tho. I have lots of tattoos, so I keep it for when I have healing tattoos.

That is a really frigging good idea. I used the stuff for my tatts. I just forgot about it. Been a while.

I'd personally avoid alcohol/hazel/proxide on skin on regular basis.

Thanks that makes a lot of sense !
But aren't you guys afraid the dish soap will be somehow irritating to the skin ? or am I overthinking it ?

Cheers sounds great, doesn't the oils/glycerin in the green soap leave oily residue on the DTR ? or does it leave the surface stripped of oils afterwards ?

Yeah it works great! You can order from www.needlesupply.com. Just checked it's 13.95 there. Last for freaking ever tho esp if you mix it 1 part soap to 2 parts water which nets you 3 gallons of usable antibacterial soap. Only takes a little bit to clean anything!

Nope it's nice and clean afterwards. Grips like a vice afterwards.

I've always just used liquid soap with my hands to clean it in the bathroom sink, easy peasy.

Dish soap works best to get all the oils off the device. I've used hand soap, face soap, etc. etc., but those are usually designed to not overdry the skin, so if you use them on a device it only works so-so.

As far as YOUR skin goes I would say water or a gentle body soap. For me, often just suds from the body wash I use in the shower is enough. If I'm really oily then I'll use a face soap or something directly applied. Hope this helps
