I never had a full frenulum ever since I was circumcised at birth. Just the remnants of one. Despite this, it remained a very sensitive spot for me and I found great pleasure from massaging the area. However, about 4 months ago I began foreskin restoration using the DTR. I experienced some pinching around the frenulum area which I didn't get too worried about and I switched to a notched push plate to protect it thinking I'd be fine. Since then I've not had any pain or pinching as bad. And I was always careful to line up the notch with the frenulum so that it was protected.
But just recently I massaged the frenulum area and discovered to my horror that I could feel almost nothing. It was barely any different from massaging the shaft anywhere else on my penis. Somehow along the way during my restoration I had lost sensitivity in the frenulum area, and it had happened without me noticing. At first I thought the grippers were too tight, but that wouldn't be a serious enough problem to cause a loss of sensitivity like this. My best guess is that when I restored, since my skin rolls inward with the push plate (including the frenulum area), the constant squishing of the area removed sensitivity over time. It's also possible the skin was still somehow pinched between the push plate and the bell despite the notch. There was not any serious pain throughout my restoration so it's easy to see why something like this would have happened without me noticing.
I wanted to believe that it was just a natural loss of sensitivity from aging, but I'm only 20 so that's very unlikely. I also considered the possibility of over-masturbation but I never pleasure the frenulum area when I masturbate, only the glans area, and my glans seem like they're fine. So something wrong must have happened while using the DTR, or while I was wearing the retainer in my sleep. Or maybe it's normal for the frenulum area to become less sensitive as the skin gets stretched out from restoration, but I doubt that.
Currently there are little red spots and a tiny scab in my frenulum area, which to me are clear signs of pinching like I described. There's also some aching or soreness there so it's obvious some damage has occurred. I can't help but wonder how long this has been going on without me noticing or if it's only a recent thing. I'm currently taking a break from the DTR, and I ordered a TLC-X thinking it might fit me better and be less likely to cause pinching.
This is a depressing situation for me for a few reasons. One, I don't know if this will heal completely, or at all. And I'd really miss being able to feel much sensation in my frenulum. Two, the stress caused from the damage has made me unable to achieve an erection or find much pleasure in anything sexual related for the time being. And most of all, I've not found anyone else who's had this problem. I feel like I'm alone in this and that I got very unlucky, and that just makes me feel worse. And I can't help but feel like it's my fault for not paying more attention to my penis, so it makes me feel stupid as well, knowing that this could have easily been avoided. But my desire to have foreskin kept pushing me forward. I sought recovery by trying to restore my foreskin, but now I'm worried that I'm even less sensitive than the average circumcised person. And this makes me afraid that I might encounter new problems if I continue to restore.
Other than taking a break from restoring, I've been applying oil to my penis to help heal any dry or damaged areas. I'm also taking a break from masturbation (not that I even feel like doing it anymore) to help increase sensitivity. I'm also quitting drinking alcohol completely, just to be thorough and feel like I'm doing everything I can. Most the only thing I read about foreskin restoration is how successful it is, which just discourages me more because I'm having issues with it. But I'm still trying to stay optimistic and hope I'll make a recovery and can continue restoring safely. And yes, I'm going to see a doctor about this soon.
Thank you for any advice or words of encouragement you can provide. Please let me know if you think this will heal. And if anyone else has had issues restoring, especially ones similar to mine, please post in this thread and let me know how your recovery went.
UPDATE: It's been about 3 days since I've taken a break and tried to fix my situation but the frenulum area doesn't feel anymore sensitive, even though the marks are healing. I'm unfortunately having to imagine life with a less sensitive penis, and depression is setting in.
