I've been thinking about the "excuses" some people make for circumcision and came up with the idea for a sort of poem that represents my ideas (not that I'm a poet). The structure starts with a form of genital mutilation that we tend to agree is abhorrent, then follow it up with something on the other end of the spectrum that is, for no good reason, more controversial. You'll see what I mean.
It's wrong when it's done to girls; It's wrong when it's done to boys.
It's wrong when it's done to children; It's wrong when it's done to infants.
It's wrong when it's botched; It's wrong when there are no complications.
It's wrong when it's done in Africa; It's wrong when it's done in America.
It's wrong when it's done outside; It's wrong when it's done in a hospital.
It's wrong when it's done to diminish pleasure; It's wrong when it's done to prevent STIs.
It's wrong when it's a metzitzah b'peh; It's wrong when it's a bris milah.
It's wrong when it's high and tight; It's wrong when it's low and loose.
