    Excerpt:

'CAIRNS parents who want to give their newborn son “the snip” will have to travel 350km to do so.

Townsville paediatric surgeon Dr Harry Stalewski is the only specialist in North Queensland who can circumcise infant males following the sudden retirement of Cairns surgeon Dr Roger Waterfield.

The 10-minute operation involves removing the foreskin which covers the tip of the penis and has been linked to fewer urinary infections in infants and has been shown to reduce the risk of heterosexually acquired HIV infection in men by about 60 per cent.
    ...
Private-paying families will spend about $500 for the procedure but Dr Stalewski said parents were usually about $60 out of pocket after Medicare and insurance rebates.'
