The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM) said a couple days ago that their new standard of practice would require that any doctor who circumcises must do it in a hospital. This would prevent mohels who are doctors from circumcising in homes and synagogues, but would NOT prevent non-doctor mohels from doing circumcisions in any setting.

First question is WHY are non-doctor mohels allowed? Second question is SO WHAT? Nobody should be cutting healthy normal genitals anywhere without fully-informed patient consent.

Now the CPSM says they goofed and will re-draft a standard that doesn't violate religious freedoms or human rights. Read an article about that backtrack here:

So once revised, the "standard will not infringe on any human or religious rights" and yet "the working group will add an exemption in the standard for male circumcision."

Both statements can not be simultaneously true. If there is an exemption for cutting male children's genitals without their informed consent, then Canadian medical oversight will continue to violate the human rights of boys and the men they are to become by affording them no equal protection of their healthy normal bodies.

The CPSM says it "is not banning male circumcisions, nor is it something we could do" but do they allow for female genital cutting? Just protect all genders equally. Let informed male, female, and intersex adults decide for themselves if any parts of their healthy bodies are disposable.
