I only do it for a a couple seconds to a minute. Is this long enough for mitosis to happen? or do I need to tug longer?

How long are you supposed to tug?

Could you describe more thoroughly what you are doing to tug. That amount of time seems in keeping with what manual restorers do, but they tug multiple parts of their skin, so total tugging time would probably be longer. My experience is that the amount of tension is far more important than the time under tension. -

That really depends on who you ask. Some say manual tugging for a few minutes a day does the job, personally I find 5+ hours a day with t-tapes or devices is a barest minimum, personally I found zero results with manual tugging, so all that said I am saying there is never a one size fits all answer try it both ways and see which one works for you.👍 1Comment

Or, do you pull the skin, hold it for a few seconds, then release. then repeat that a number of times, so that you have done many reps, maybe holding a slightly different place on the skin each time, and end up tugging for a total of 5 minutes or half hour, or whatever?
Most manual tuggers seem to report doing a number of repetitions, if you will, ending up tugging for a total of 5-30 minutes, per session, and most do several sessions a day. As Dragons says, this takes some experimenting, and you need to figure out what works best for you.
As far as living with your parents and keeping this under the radar, manual is probably the easiest way to do that. Anything else involves some equipment, and that leaves something around that could be found. Of course, tape, O-rings, and some other methods rely on typically household items, so they may be low profile enough to work, you have to decide how much risk there is and what consequences you are comfortable with. If you are in school and expect to be out of the house in a year or so, then I think a good argument could be made to just wait until you are on your own, or do manual until you are on your own.
Also, I will just point out that devices are not better than manual, in fact, manual could be better than a device, since devices typically need a significant amount of skin to work. Many men use manual before switching to a device, but many also just do manual. The best method is the one you will use regularly.

Thanks, but what I meant was do you pull the skin and hold it for a couple seconds, then stop? that is all during a given tugging session?

If you live with your olds, no problem don't use the commercial devices make yourself some t-tapes, they aren't hard to make if you parents found them they would probably have no idea what they are unless they see you actually wearing them.
I would also suggest you consider restoring sessions of HOURS not minutes for a minimum of 3 hours at a time at low tension for the first few weeks.Comment

I manual tug between 2-5 mins each time I go to the bathroom. My longest sessions are after I get up and before I go to bed. Over time you will see progress.Comment
