  • Photos/ resizing

I'm having trouble sending photos, mine seem to be too large. I've tried resizing them but I don't really know how I suppose because I can't seem to get them small enough. I'm using a mac air with I-photo. Can anyone help?

Moved this thread to the suggestion box, as it's better suited here and should get more visibility. I will look into this for you, just have a bit of patience please as I'm learning all the new tools and protocols for the board myself

I don't know about photo re-sizing tools with Mac, but I'll bet it's easy like most anything else with Mac.

You could email me one of the pics and I'll see if I should adjust our allowed pic file size settings.

You can use the default 'Preview' application to resize. Just open a photo (the default program should be Preview in most cases), go to Tools, and choose Adjust Size.

When I try to upload it says "your file of 2033233 exceeds the limit of 2000000," I never get to the preview button.

Very useful pic files can be much less than 10% of that size. The largest one in my gallery is 179000.

Considering we lost the old forum because the contents grew so much larger than what the host was expecting, I'm cautious about raising the limit.

Preview is an app in mac. open the picture, convert it, and then re-upload.

The old forum had a limit in size for pictures of 1024x1024pix max, and for this one I keep on shrinking my pictures to that size before posting. The images I post here (1024x768px if in landscape) typically have a size in the 150~250KB range. YMMV.

I usually work under Linux, but on any platform there are free tools you can use to resize images. One of them is GIMP. Also, smartphones and tablets usually include some basic out-of-the-box image manipulation tool.

"your file of 2033233 exceeds the limit of 2000000," I never get to the preview button.

I agree with Ron in that there's no need to post 50-megapixel images. Such a size, in most cases is a waste of harddisk and internet bandwidth and they do not provide any additional information.

To show some special detail, a close-up, well-focused, well-lit image with medium resolution will do the job.
The same goes for general pictures. Use good illumination, do some shots and choose the one with best focus and that's it.
