Live chat option

Think it would be pretty cool to have a live chat box on here if members are just kind of lurking around with nothing to do could just bs with each other and discuss new ideas thats on our minds etc related to FR. Just a thought not sure if its been tried or not as im still new.

I really like that idea tbh because I'm typically idle on restoring sites the majority of the time with nothing new to look at.

At first, I was kinda "meh" on this idea...frankly, the forum doesn't get much traffic, if you watch the numbers. Most of the people online at any given time are guests, and these people don't contribute to the little community we have here. I figured, if chat was implemented, it wouldn't see enough users to facilitate worthwhile conversations (which would be necessary to justify the effort needed to add such a feature to the site).

Now, I'm thinking the idea may have some merit, but there might be a way to accomplish the same goal without having it directly on the forum. Could any of us not make, for example, a discord server dedicated to FR, and request a sticky post including instructions on how to join it? It wouldn't surprise me if there was one already out there.

That said, if they're open to the idea...might be worth a shot. If it fails; well, you take it back down. Sometimes, you have to experiment.

There are also little details to work out. Like, what is allowed in this chat? If they allow pictures, then that means they have to block chat for all users under 18 (just like the progress galleries, if I'm not mistaken), and then an already slim group of possible chat users becomes even smaller. Is the chat going to be moderated? If so, that's going to be a headache that I doubt they'll want to deal with.

Yeah, I go back and forth on this idea. If we have a more robust group of active users on here, a live chat could be awesome, but I just don't know if there are enough.

The Metal One i see what you mean, the foreskin restoration community on redit does have a chat Channel but i feel making a discord channel for this specific community may do what I want. Discord channels can be 18+ so that we would be allowed to post whatever. Just feel like there are times it would be beneficial especially when multiple people can put there input in without waiting around on the forums. Was just a thought I had the other day as I seem to be privately messaging multiple guys to talk and some are on the same things so multiple of us in a chat could all add to the conversations ( im a very social person so I like talking and bouncing ideas)

I don't think so that only a few people is here and would not participate in chat.if u start chat room than more people will join and will connect definitely. because mostly guys don't hv habits to write big posts but they will feel easy to chat direct and interect with other guys.

This forum has features that Facebook doesn't have, mainly that stuff posted persists and is searchable with various filters. But over at the Facebook foreskin restoration group, they will sometimes post their plan to "meet" in a live chat. I suggest that we echo those invitations here instead of re-inventing the wheel. If they complain that it's an unmanageable crowd then we can just clone what they're doing and set our own schedule.

Just an idea could we have an FSR discord? As I remember there's a vBulletin integration module.

Meh. I like the forum as is. I never have liked chat features. I doubt I would use it if it was available.

However, it might be useful for tlctugger.com customer service.

Yeah, I'd second a chat for sure. I've tried to get on discord and other feeds for chat but seems overwhelming. I think it would be beneficial, and those who don't want it don't have to use it.. Just my 2 cents.
