  • Thoughts on PROGRESS GALLERIES implementation

The "upgrade" to vB5 takes away the ability to set up a forum section where only the original poster is allowed to reply to a thread (threads are now called topics btw).

Do you think it will suffice to "ask nicely" for folks to not reply within someone else's gallery? I'm willing to delete occasional transgressions flagged by Gallery owners.

One alternative would be to make each person create a Blog, but THEY would have to correctly set permissions while setting it up, plus I think they would all be at the same top level hieracrhy in the Blogs section, alongside actual "blog" stuff.

I'd be willing to try out the blog idea (gotta take some pics first, though...ha...I think my only ones were lost with the old site). Maybe make a sticky with instructions on setting up permissions? That way, you shift the responsibility to the poster, and off of yourself as an admin.

I don't think it'll be a bad thing if people are able to write things about our progress. Perhaps set up a function that allows users to filter out responses?

Good idea. It would almost be as good as blocking hecklers if the person whose gallery it was could just delete anything they didn't want in their own topic. So far it looks like that's not an option in our version of the forum software.

But that leads me to another related (and POSSIBLE) idea which would be to let people in that section open and close their own threads. So whenever you're about add something you could open it. When you're done you could leave your thread closed between updates. So all the progress galleries would look closed nearly all the time, like my post about updating the forum in the Suggestion Box.

OK I did that for us. I thought maybe the topic originator could keep posting without first opening the thread, but I did a test and that bit didn't work.

Thank goodness your back!! I've been looking at the old url everyday for about 3 months or so(not sure when the old site stopped) and finally looked at the TLC site expecting to see the Forum was down temporarily and was surprised and elated that it was up again. I'm going to have to learn how to use the new site again, it took me a while just to learn the old one. I suppose we lost everything on the old site, how sad! There was a wealth of knowledge on it but I guess we have to be flexible( pun intended). I hope it doesn't take everyone as long to find the new site as it took me. Anyway glad we're back, Thanks Ron!

I'll send a note to TLC clients from the 2-month down period, and I also have a forum emails list somewhere from around 2010. I'll also tweet about it. But we're not "officially" back until I wrangle some of the forum features a little better.

I'm glad this new forum is up again, although the old contents have been lost.
Here are are a few comments and suggestions.

                * This version (vBulletin 5.x) is more mobile/tablet friendly, that's ok.

                * It allows only 5 pictures per post. The usual guideline in the old forum was to post pictures of the penis from the sides and from the front, in similar light conditions, in order to see the progress over time. If we update the gallery i.e. once per month, with the limit of 5 pics per post, this leaves us with room for only 2 more pics.
Could this limit be raised to i.e. 10 pics? If not, I'll manage to just post the most relevant ones.

                * In a post, only 3 thumbnails are shown even if there are up to 5 pictures. One must click one of them to see them all.
In the old forum all thumbnails were shown at a glance.

                The text should be updated:
                - Some " strings (html escaping for the double quotes character) appear instead of double quotes.
                - With this vBulletin version, to sort by tugging start date, the user must click the "Filter" button and select "Sort By Title". Unfortunately this setting is not persistent.

                Regards.
